Till Death Do Us Part…Actually

Divorce is one of the most stressful and devastating events people can face. How we handle that stress and turmoil affects us the rest of our lives. Too often, our circumstances are too emotionally charged to make good decisions. We also seem to forget that the divorce decree is not the end. With children, grandchildren, and ongoing family events, we will need to interact with that former spouse on numerous occasions, until death really does part the two of you.

Are you seeing the bigger picture? The saying “Don’t sweat the small stuff”, really should drive our decision making. It’s so easy to get sucked into the moment and unnecessary battles. Some lawyers don’t help that process. Lawyers are an intensely competitive breed because they had to fight to get into law school, fight for the best grades, and fight for the best jobs upon graduation. It is all too easy for lawyers to focus on the immediate fight, rather than focus on the bigger picture.

At ME Law Group, we are focused on that bigger picture. We serve our clients to the best of our ability, and that means we will fight when it is necessary to fight. It also means that we share our experience and judgment to ensure that we all stay focused on that bigger picture. The true test comes twenty years later when your children and grandchildren say, “It’s too bad their marriage didn’t make it, but they kept our best interests at heart and we love them for it.”

It doesn’t matter what the divorce decree says. You are connected until “death do us part”.
